In 1982, on the impetus of the acclaim obtained by the 924 and on the push towards more performing engines, Porsche launched its older sister with a more sporty bodywork with enlarged fenders and larger spoilers, while the new 2,749 cc injection engine was capable of delivering 163 HP and to reach a top speed of 220km/h. In conjunction with a restyling of the interior (new dashboard, door panels, and seats), the 944 Turbo was presented in 1985, powered by a supercharged version of the 2.5-litre 4-cylinder engine, credited with 220 HP and a maximum speed . of 245 km/h. In 1987 Porsche presented the 944S, with a 4-valve cylinder head and 190 HP of power, while at the same time all the 944s underwent a further restyling. The following year it was the turn of the Turbo S with an enhanced 250 HP engine and max speed. of 260 km/h. In 1989, all naturally aspirated 944s were unified in a single model, the 944 S2 with a 2,990 cc 211 HP engine, while the 944 S2 Cabriolet version was presented to the market. The 944 era ended in 1991 with the launch of the 944 Turbo Cabriolet, a rarity produced in only 652 units.
