The 2019 Porsche 935 was formally in 2018 at Laguna Seca Raceway in California during the Rennsport Reunion VI. Coinciding with Porsche’s 70th anniversary, it is a modern homage to the original 935 race car that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans and contributed to Porsche’s dominance in motorsports. With a limited production of just 77 units, the 935/19 was only available to Porsche’s top clients and all order slots were quickly spoken for.
Like its historic predecessor, the 935/19 combines a stunning and aggressive exterior design with cutting edge technology underneath. Based on the 991.2-generation 911 GT2 RS Clubsport, most of the body has been replaced or supplemented with carbon fibre composite parts. Its 700-horsepower 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six engine paired with Porsche’s seven-speed, automated manual PDK gearbox can launch it from 0 to 62 mph in just 2.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 211 mph.
In profile, the 935/19 resembles the fabled 935/78 long-body derivative of the Seventies, whose massive rear wing earned it the nickname „Moby Dick.“ Far from just a style statement, the aggressive bodywork is aerodynamically optimized to improve stability and driving dynamics. Fully FIA-compliant, the 935/19 features an integrated, welded-in roll cage, an escape hatch in the roof, an electrically triggered fire-extinguishing system, and a special Recaro wrap-around racing bucket seat with six-point safety harness and cushions that can be adjusted laterally to accommodate different body sizes. A similarly configured passenger seat was among an extensive list of racing-oriented options.
The interior is trimmed in a combination of carbon-fiber and Alcantara. Air conditioning is standard, along with a central locking system. A semi-circular, quick-release, multi-function steering wheel includes a pit speed-limiter control. Other details borrowed from Porsche’s purest race cars include special LED lighting, rear-view mirrors, aerodynamic wheel covers, and dual exhaust outlets with “cookie-cutter” baffles.
A factory spares package was a $44k option when new.
