History
It should have been the successor to the 911, but ultimately the Porsche 928 became a coveted outsider. After all, customers kept clinging to „der Elfer“ after Zuffenhausen pushed the 928 forward as the ultimate GT in 1977. While the advanced sports car really did sell fine, it was also made increasingly exclusive – and that was reflected in its price. The basic 49,000 euro 8-cylinder Porsche got a 10,000 euro more expensive S version in ’79. About 4 years later, this 928 S was upgraded again, including its price which increased by another 20,000 euros. In 1986, a facelift called 928 S4 appeared whose prices started at around 110,000 euros… So, having said that, for an affordable Porsche 928 S, you have to turn to Prins! And it’s a very good one too, referring to the extensive (service) documentation including maintenance history + invoices and a truly beautiful condition….
Exterior
We can see with our eyes closed that the Porsche 928 is a 911 derivative: the bodywork has the same sloping roofline, but it is the details that make it a lot more modern. Note, for example, the round headlights that automatically fold back into the front at rest. A front that is extra long because of Porsche’s choice to put the power source in the front instead of the rear from now on. And then it is a large 8-cylinder too… What else makes the 928 a true GT are the larger dimensions with much more glass for a better overview from the cockpit. Our S features the more striking light units in the front bumper that give it a sturdier appearance. The change counted as a precursor to the later S4 versions. Equipped with a beautiful, timeless Meteor Grey color scheme, the sleek coupe will never get boring.
Interior
Inside our Porsche 928 S, the revolutionary nature of the car is even more pronounced because of the many electronic systems. For example, an automatic air conditioning is standard! The seating position is nice and deep and the door panels are well filled with speakers and elongated air vents. Our „time machine“ is equipped including super stylish reed leather seat upholstery. A color that is carried through to the steering wheel, dashboard, roof liner, center/tunnel console and even the entire floor. Large 928 lettering in the door sill strips immediately upon entry proudly indicates the beautiful 2+2 cockpit you plan to enter. An electric sunroof, electric windows, extensive electric seat controls; in terms of luxury, it’s all next level aboard the Porsche 928.
Technology & performance
And not just in terms of luxury … co-steering rear wheels in fast turns, a „dogleg“ gearbox mounted above the rear axle and a water-cooled aluminum V8 engine contributed to the 928’s extremely innovative image. Our S has an output of 310 hp and delivers 400 Nm of torque to the rear wheels; 10 hp and 15 Nm more, respectively, than previous 928 S and even 70 hp + 50 Nm more than the original without the letter „S.“ The growth in power was partly due to the increased engine capacity: from 4.5 to 4.7 liters. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h thus only had to take 6.2 seconds and the top speed of 252 km/h broke the 250 barrier for the first time. Our Porsche 928 S still drives like the best of them. Granted, it is no 911. But that’s what makes this classic extra special….
With kind regards,
team Prins.
