The 928 was meticulously stripped down and found to be in remarkably sound original order. Work then began on a dream mechanical spec, this featuring a hand-built 928 S2 spec engine and strengthened original manual gearbox, the S2 engine is regarded by many as a 928 high point, retaining the high revving nature of the original with much increased progressive power and torque. All other mechanical elements of the car were rebuilt to a high specification and the car carefully re-assembled with new or refurbished parts where required.
Inside the original seats were replaced with Recaro Pole Position buckets nicely finished in the original Pasha trim to match and a new green Wilton carpet was fitted, greatly enhancing the interior ambience. Finally, a high-quality sound system was installed featuring the Porsche Classic Head Unit.
Since completion the commissioning owner has enjoyed many great drives but it is now time for the car to pass to a new owner in order to make way for a number of other motoring projects.
The ‘greatest hits’ 928 brief has certainly been achieved, the lovely pure original shape belying the potent developed driving machine that lies beneath the surface. In all, nearly £80,000 was spent for this result.
In many ways the original 928 still looks so ‘brave new world’ modern despite being 45 years old. Easy to see now why it is one of few luxury sports cars to be granted ‘The Car of the Year’ accolade when new.
The original engine, gearbox and seats are boxed and accompany the car.
