Successful competition cars like the Porsche 917, The Porsche Carrera RSR Turbo, the 935, 936, the 956 and 962 and last, but not least the Formula 1 TAG Turbo engine used by the McLaren team, all illustrate the vast experience amassed by Porsche designers in the sphere of turbocharging. Moreover, what made Porsche’s racing cars so fast on the circuit, makes the 911 Turbo so enjoyable to drive – superior performance, outstanding acceleration, and the marque’s characteristically excellent roadholding, braking and cornering ability. As would be expected from of a car with such large power reserves, the 911 Turbo is fitted with an ultra-high performance braking system. The hydraulic dual circuit, servo assisted system incorporates deeply finned, light alloy, four piston calipers, with cross-drilled internally ventilated discs. On a dry surface the Turbo can brake from 62.5 mph to rest in just 3.3 seconds.
The top-of-the-range 911 Turbo is so enjoyable to drive – superior performance, outstanding acceleration and the marque’s characteristically excellent roadholding, braking and cornering ability. With a 3.3 litre capacity, its air-cooled, 6-cylinder engine, with exhaust gas turbocharger produces an output of 300 bhp at 5,500 rpm and weighs of just 1300 kg. Maximum torque is 430 Nm at 4,000 rpm and 0-60 mph is achieved in just 5.2 secs. Top speed is over 160 mph. Fans of the new G50 5-speed gearbox had very little time to get used to the big improvement before Porsche ended the production run of the 911 Turbo.
Supplied new by Swinford Motors Porsche, Stourbridge in August 1989, our 911 Turbo retains its original leather book pack, sales invoice (£61,337), spare keys, Blaupunkt radio manual, an MOT history stretching back to 1992, and of course numerous service invoices. The 911 Turbo is presented in an iconic paint-to-sample 1980’s colour combination and is offered for sale after completing a re-commissioning and comprehensive pre-sales check by Porsche-trained master technicians. The check has included a major service, new N-rated tyre set, air conditioning overhaul and a clear sealing treatment of the chassis, amongst numerous other tasks, to make the 930 Turbo fully ready for its next owner to enjoy.
