For Sale: 1987 Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet (930) – Rare Classic in Good Condition
This is a rare first-generation Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet, produced for only two years from 1987 to 1989, making it a highly sought-after classic among collectors and enthusiasts alike.
History: I purchased this beauty in 2017 as a personal 40th anniversary gift and imported it from the U.S. to the EU, where all taxes and duties have been paid. I am the fourth proud owner, according to both the original Porsche warranty book and the Carfax report:
- 1st Owner: Purchased from Porsche Inglewood, California, in November 1987, and kept it for over 17 years until January 2005.
- 2nd Owner: From Pennsylvania, owned the car for just over a year before selling it in May 2006.
- 3rd Owner: A gentleman from New York, who owned it until September 2017.
- Current Owner: Myself, having enjoyed this masterpiece for less than 5,000 km over the past seven years.
Condition & Upgrades: The car has not been involved in any accident whatsoever as far as I know. It has not rust problems and the undercarriage looks clean. The car was already in good working order when I acquired it, but I’ve taken the time to enhance its condition further, combining partial restoration and modern improvements while keeping all original parts for easy reversion to factory specs. Some of the key work done includes:
- New Professional Paint Job – The car was showing signs of age, so it was treated to a fresh, high-quality repaint.
- Refreshed Interior – The original leather interior has been professionally restored, giving it a fresh, yet authentic look.
- New Soft-Top – Installed a brand-new soft-top from Eurotop Germany.
- New Michelin Pilot Sport Tires – With less than 500 km on them.
- LED Headlights – Upgraded to LED units with original Porsche Hella glass for better visibility at night.
- Performance Upgrades – Installed a Fabspeed intercooler and air filter kit, along with a K27 turbo, Bosch injectors, and a stainless steel exhaust. The result is enhanced performance, supported by a dyno chart in the photos.
- Other upgrades: steering Wheel Upgrade – Swapped the original steering wheel with an original Porsche 964 wheel for improved aesthetics and handling (important given it has no power steering); audio System – Upgraded the aftermarket Sony unit to a Porsche Becker CDR 220, which looks period-correct and adds modern convenience with an auxiliary input.
All original parts are included with the sale, should the new owner wish to revert to factory specifications.
Accessories & Documentation: The car comes with its original owner’s manual, warranty and maintenance book, toolkit and tonneau cover.
Performance: For a 37-year-old car, it drives exactly as it should. The engine and powertrain are in good shape, with no known problems . Some notes to consider:
- The air conditioning needs a recharge every couple of years.
- Finding 1st gear can take some getting used to, as is common with older 911s.
- Occasionally, there’s a small oil spot under the car, but this is standard for classic 911s.
Reason for Sale: As much as I’ve loved owning this car, I simply don’t have the time to enjoy it as much as it deserves. Between family and business commitments, I hope it finds a new home where it will be driven and appreciated as it should be.
