The first of countless upgrades to Porsche’s perennial 911 came in 1966 with the introduction of the 911S. Easily distinguishable by its stylish Fuchs five-spoked alloy wheels, the ‚S‘ featured a heavily revised engine producing 160bhp. A lengthened wheelbase introduced in 1969 improved the 911’s handling, and then in 1970 the engine underwent the first of many enlargements: to 2.2 litres. In 1974 all 911 variants received the 2.7-litre 175bhp unit, hitherto reserved for the Carrera RS, when the latter went to 3.0 litres.

Das Fahrzeug im Detail

Manufactured in November 1974, this Porsche 911S was originally supplied by Porsche agent Roger Clark Cars Ltd of Leicester to its first custodian, Roy Frostwich of London, on 6th January 1975, making this car one of the earliest right-hand drive examples delivered to the UK. The Porsche was registered with Mr Frostwich’s cherished registration ‚RNF 3‘. The 911 is finished in Guards Red with black interior trim and is equipped with factory options including electric windows; electric sunroof; tinted glass; aluminium sills and wheel arch covers; Koni dampers; front and rear anti-roll bars; rear fog lamps; and a rear windscreen wiper. The wheels are original 15″ 6J Fuchs black and silver anodized alloys.

By September 1975 the 911 had changed hands, passing to its second custodian, Mr Wolfgang Gelderblom of the Playboy Club of London, who would retain the car until the early 1980s. The 911 stayed within London area until the mid-2000s and was an entrant at Porsche Club of GB National Concours.

‚KNH 63N‘ has benefited from considerable expenditure over the course of the past 50 years, and in the last 10,000 miles has been subject to a body restoration by Porsche specialists Carter & Carter. Other works have included a professional interior re-trim and an engine rebuild by Porsche specialist Paul Stephens.

The car comes with a fascinating provenance file containing the following: details of all previous custodians and works carried out; a Porsche Vehicle Identification Report confirming the original factory specification; Porsche 911 2.7 Register details; DVLA keeper records and correspondence back to the first owner; a V5C Registration Certificate; previous MoTs; various service/parts invoices; DVLA Number Plate Authorization Certificate; and spare keys.

One of the rarest and most desirable of 1970s Porsche 911s, ‚KNH 63N‘ has been featured in the December 2012 edition of Octane magazine and the December 2015 edition of 911 & Porsche World magazine (copies available).
