Das Fahrzeug im Detail

Founded by Rob Dickinson in 2009, Singer Vehicle Design was born with the goal of reimagining the legendary air-cooled Porsche 911. Centered around the philosophy of “relentless pursuit of excellence,” the brand’s lofty ambition would soon be realized after the launch of its Classic Study at Monterey Car Week in 2009. The goal for each restoration was simple: to collaborate with each owner, pursuing their vision for the ultimate air-cooled 911. Each commission is distinguished by the quality of Singer’s artistry – from the nickel-plated interior and exterior trim to the high-quality aniline leather hides. The orders piled in, and with such high demand, there was soon a large volume of back orders. Production within Singer’s Classic Services program was closed with just 450 restorations completed.

Singer’s Classic Services commissions were based on the Porsche Type 964 model, which retained the proportions and rear trailing-arm suspension of the early 911s but featured advancements such as power steering, improved front suspension, and ABS brakes.

Once a client’s original 964 reached Singer’s headquarters in Los Angeles, the car was fully disassembled and the tub was then prepared for restoration, where it received a lower and wider stance, thanks to custom carbon fiber bodywork. Clients then had the opportunity to personalize their car in close collaboration with Singer’s specifications team. Every aspect of the air-cooled 911 was overviewed via a lengthy specifications period – from desired performance and interior and exterior finishings, all the way down to the lug nuts. This meant that no two commissions were exactly alike.

This persistent commitment to even the smallest of details is characterized by another brand mantra: everything is important. This phrase is found on both the walls of the restoration facilities and the doorsills of recently completed cars. A testament to the success of this approach is the praise the cars received by journalists, owners, and enthusiasts from all over the world.

This “Pompano Beach” commission, restored for its current owner, embodies Singer’s mission to a tee. Starting life as a 1990 964 Carrera 2, the car was shipped to Singer’s facility in 2022 and restored over the next year and a half. During this period, the consignor undertook an extensive specification process in collaboration with Singer. A subdued Slate Grey was selected to complement the soft, milky glow from the full nickel-plated trim and was complemented with “Porsche” lettering plated in 24-karat gold. Its pièce de résistance is its Special Wish-ordered rear-wing-delete tail section, allowing its nickel-plated 4.0-liter badging to take center stage. The Singer’s Special Wish mesh engine cover even affords a sneak preview of the car’s velocity stacks.

Sophisticated, understated design continued into the interior, with aniline hides finished in an elegant shade of blood red, dubbed “Scarletti.” These hides were then wrapped around carbon fiber bucket seats and cross-stitched to highlight the stunning design of each. Black leather hides adorn the top of the dash and contrast beautifully with Wine Red velour carpeting. To extend the car’s touring capabilities, a unique cubby box system inspired by the 964 RS America was optioned as well. The cubbies replace its back seats but add a welcome amount of additional storage, making it better suited to long-distance travel. As with all of Singer’s restorations, the Pompano Beach commission’s stylish design is partnered with world-renowned performance. The car is fitted with optional top-specification Öhlins adjustable suspension, a titanium sports exhaust, and carbon ceramic disc brakes. Opening the engine compartment reveals a 4-liter, naturally aspirated evolution of the 964’s air-cooled flat-six built by renowned engine builder Ed Pink Racing Engines, an $85,000 option. The engine itself is a work of art, complete with champagne gold velocity stacks that draw attention to its individual throttle bodies. The consignor spared no expense on this build, with over $245,000 spent in options.

Now showing just 508 miles since its restoration, this reimagined Pompano Beach commission is accompanied by its original owner’s manuals and specification document. A brilliant mix of optimized performance and touring prowess, it is incredibly well suited for its next adventure, whether that be a spirited canyon drive or long-distance rally. With order books for Singer’s Classic Services now closed, this well-specified example will make an excellent addition for the collector who demands the very best.
