Background
In 2002 Porsche specialist Paul Stephens started to formulate and develop his vision, a series of models based on the Porsche 911 featuring classic style with modern features and performance. Officially launched 20 years ago under the PS Autoart brand, the initial models were the Classic Series based on the 3.0SC and the Lightweight 300R, based on the Porsche 964 which featured a 300BHP 3.8 litre engine and retro styling cues from the 73 RS. More models quickly followed, including our most successful to date, the Retro Touring R.
The Retro Touring R was also based on the 964 platform, to enable us to incorporate technical benefits such as ABS, PAS, manual or tiptronic transmission, 2WD or 4WD and Targa or coupe configuration. The styling was inspired by the earlier compact 60s and 70s 911s together with some subtle aggression added to give our cars their unique appearance.
In 2008, our Series 1 models were replaced by Series 1.5 with some subtle styling changes and a series of engine options, but more relevantly a big development in how the cars were constructed, allowing us to supply them with a 3 year 60,000 mile warranty when completed. Further revisions took place with Series 2 launched in 2014, which continued until 2020 when we made the decision to stop producing models based on the 964 due to the diminishing number of donor cars, a problem hard to imagine when we launched PS Autoart all those years ago.
