All the usual 911 SC rot spots have been attended to with new metal and panels where required, including the full backdate makeover for the RS look. And the carbon element? The roof, bonnet and rear ducktail are all carbon, although you might be forgiven at first glance, for not realising, such is the subtlety of the paint/carbon integration.
The colour is a custom graphite metallic, which immediately gives the build something of a contemporary look. Get closer and you will spot the paint blending seamlessly with the carbon fibre weave of the roof. Then check out the bonnet and ducktail, with subtle but effective Porsche script reversed in carbon. Not for the purist, maybe, but a classy execution.
And there’s more, lots more. The genuine 7+8 15in Fuchs are finished to RSR spec and look stunning wrapped with period Pirelli Cinturato CN36 tyres. Underneath every facet of the suspension has been rebuilt, painted and re-plated, and augmented with 2-way adjustable KW V3 damper units, plus uprated Turbo anti-roll bars. The brakes have been entirely replaced too, with new brake lines as has the fuel tank, fuel lines and fuel pump.
Sitting in the tail is a fully rebuilt engine, that is far from standard. Retaining the 3-litre bottom end, it features high-compression pistons and road spec GE40 cams. But sitting astride the flat-six is a US sourced Rasant throttle body fuel injection system, with Motec ECU. The gearbox is a fully rebuilt Type 915 unit, with a Quaife LSD.
Further improvements include the popular Retrofit aircon system, plus Retrofit updated fuse-board.
The interior has undergone a full retrim, with a classy mix of Carrera Red leather and contrasting black, with Alcantara headlining and a stitched leather covered, half roll cage. A carbon Momo Prototipo steering wheel is a neat touch, as is the 917 inspired, striped wooden gearknob.
ON THE ROAD
Solid and super-sorted, pretty much sums it up. Every facet of this build is spot-on as you would expect given the ground-up build and all new parts.
The handling is just wonderful, with the just the right amount of movement on the tall profile Pirellis and full 911 style feedback through the wheel. The 915 ‘box shifts with the very best of them and performance is strong from the modded motor, but not at the expense of tractability.
The interior is a smart place to be and given our test drive was on a suitably hot day, the air-con is welcome and effective. However, should you be driving it in cooler weather, the bucket seats are heated too!
IN SUMMARY
A neat/different and subtle take of the hot rod theme, that needs to be viewed to be reapply appreciated. A great, well sorted drive, too means there’s the substance to back up the style.
