Debuted for the 1974 model year, the G series Porsche 911 offered numerous safety and performance upgrades over the outgoing F series. Most notably was the introduction of impact bumpers to conform with low-speed protection requirements of US law, in addition to the revised 2.7-liter K-Jetronic fuel-injected engine. Offered for just two model years, the US Carrera 2.7, coupled with the Targa body style, made for a desirable combination.
This particular example is fitted with upgraded wheels, wider fenders, a ducktail spoiler on the rear, as part of the Carrera trim package, which also includes decals with color-matched wheel centers. Furthermore, its original owner optioned the Targa in the striking and unusual shade of Magenta, one of the rarest and liveliest colors offered.
In addition to its rarity and wonderful visual presence, a seven-month restoration was recently completed as part of the 2022 Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge hosted by Porsche Cars North America. Mechanically, the matching-numbers engine was rebuilt to OEM specifications, in addition to new Porsche Classic suspension and brake components. On the exterior, new OEM Fuchs wheels were added, and a fresh coat of Magenta paint was applied. Upon completion, the Targa was featured at Luftgekühlt 7, and earned a Porsche Classic Technical Certificate. This bright and bold Targa is ready to be enjoyed by its next caretaker, whether it be at the next air-cooled gathering or on your favorite driving road.
