ENGINE AND GEARBOX
The SC version’s flat 6 is an evolution of the engine used in the 3.0-litre turbo version that appeared a few years ago, but without the turbochargers. Renowned for its reliability, the 3.2-litre unit produces 231bhp and gives the car dynamic handling thanks to its compact size. The 5-speed ‘G50’ gearbox is smooth to operate yet precise, with firm locks, and offers an incomparable experience compared to the 4-speed gearbox. Our tester started off at the drop of a hat before stabilizing at a steady idle, and emitted no suspicious smoke. Once on the road, the roundness of the engine and its straightforward thrust, with no dips in power, provide pure driving pleasure. Numerous servicing and maintenance operations have been carried out, and these are documented by invoices and a service logbook, available on request. The engine was completely rebuilt in 2020 by specialist André Chipeaux at a total cost of more than €23,000. Since then, the vehicle has covered approximately 3,000 kilometers.
EXTERIOR
The lines of the 911 are enhanced on the SC version, with a charcoal grey ‘Schiefer Metallic’ (code Q9) that elegantly complements the black details that replace the chrome of previous versions. The window surrounds, rear bonnet grille and side skirts become black, giving the vehicle a sportier, less conventional look. The paintwork, redone a few years ago and protected by a ceramic treatment, is in perfect condition and has a superb shine. There is no rust to speak of.
INTERIOR
In short, a 911 interior. The traditional instrumentation on a black background is perfectly legible, including from left to right the fuel gauge, oil temperature and pressure, the rev counter in the center with a red zone peaking at 6,300 rpm, the speedometer and finally the clock on the right. Our tester is dressed in black leather and carpet. The seats sit well and are in very good condition, as are the dashboard leathers. The good quality plastics have aged well and have no major defects, and the carpets are also in very good condition. The cabin pampers its occupants with electric windows and working air conditioning. Our example has a sunroof.
CONSUMABLES
Braking is provided by four ventilated discs, which have no trouble stopping the 911’s less than 1,200 kilos unladen weight and are in good condition. The Michelin Pilot Exalto tyres (205/55 ZR16 at the front and 225/50 ZR16 at the rear) are as new and date from 2020.
