Built in the first part of 1954, this ‘Pre-A’ Cabriolet was specified with the desirable Type 546 1500 engine. The Reutter coachwork was painted in Pascha Red, with the interior trimmed in Beige leather. Destined for the United States, the car arrived with US importer Max Hoffman in New York on 4 March.
While its history in the United States is not documented, the car was later exported and registered in Italy in December 1989. At this time, it painted in silver with a navy-blue interior and was then restored back to its factory-correct colour scheme of Pascha Red over Beige leather. Following the restoration, the car was entered into various Italian rallies in the 1990s.
Later registered in Belgium, in 2017 this Porsche 356 Cabriolet was subject to a nut and bolt restoration at the hands of craftsman Albert Haefner, numerous photographs of the work can be viewed on file. The car was stripped back to bare metal and painted in the factory-correct colour scheme, with the engine rebuilt as well. The final result being a beautifully restored early 356 cabriolet.
The consignor acquired this Porsche in 2023, and in August of 2024 it received a service from specialists Tower Porsche of London. The steering box was adjusted, with a new set of spark plugs fitted, as well as four-wheel alignment. This 356 is a stunning example of a ‘Pre-A’ Cabriolet finished in its factory-correct colour scheme.
