The 997 generation is a particularly beloved car in the 911 lineage. By the time it was unveiled in 2005, enthusiasts had come to terms with the newer water-cooled engines, and Porsche had some time to work out the major kinks from the 996. In the generations that followed, the 911 began to grow dimensionally, and more technology was integrated that separated the car and the driver, leaving the 997 as a true sweet spot in the 911 range. In 2009, an update to the 997 was introduced that featured an all-new motor with a direct fuel injection setup, as well as Porsche’s new double-clutch gearbox-PDK. At this time, the car also received a subtle facelift and a laundry list of other improvements that made the car an even better performer and the ideal everyday sports car.
Produced in 2011, this Carrera 4S is a beautiful car finished in a rare shade of Basalt Schwarz Metallic, which is paired with a unique deep brown Cocoa leather interior. At the time of cataloging the car shows 84,213 km on the odometer and is in very good condition throughout having been under the care of just 3 owners. The 997.2 Carrera 4S is a standout in the 997 lineup for its widened rear fenders and the red reflector that bridges the gap between the taillights, harkening back to the 964 and 993 Carrera 4S. From the factory, this car was optioned with a great-looking set of 19” wheels from the contemporary 911 Turbo and sitting behind them, a set of big, red-painted brake calipers.
The Cocoa leather interior is a beautiful contrast to the metallic black on the outside and presents quite nicely with just a few creases in the seats from use. Equipped with extended leather, the deep brown hide extends onto the sport steering wheel and along the dashboard which is all stitched with corresponding brown thread. Additionally, the center console has been optioned in leather and the 12-way adjustable sport seats have been specified with an embossed Porsche crest in the headrests.
Sitting in the rear of the car is a 3.8-liter flat-6 with direct fuel injection for the first time in the 911’s history. From the factory, the car is rated at 385 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque which allows for 0-60 mph in just 4.3 seconds. To achieve this acceleration time, the power is sent through a 7-speed PDK gearbox, which allows for lightning-fast shifting and comfortable, efficient driving around town. The car received a thorough servicing last year at Porsche Center Verona where the brakes and rear suspension were addressed and features both a set of Bridgestone summer tires as well as Pirelli P Zero winter tires. This combination of engine and gearbox makes it the perfect 911 for daily use while also a truly sublime car when the roads get twisty. Add to that the fact this car is equipped with all-wheel-drive, it is a true one-car solution to be enjoyed year-round.
There is little doubt that the 997 is a future classic in the making- and the second-generation cars with their updated DFI engines are especially desirable. This particular Carrera 4S is a great example, offered in a rare and appealing color combination and packed with great options that really sets it apart from the rest.
