The drive is equally unique: the 3.7-litre bi-turbo six-cylinder boxer engine delivers its power of 405 kW/550 hp to the road exclusively via the rear wheels, which means that the 911 Sport Classic is positioned between the 911 Carrera GTS and 911 Turbo in terms of performance. The engine shares a number of features with the 911 Turbo. The variable turbine geometry (VTG) and the wastegates contribute to the superior power delivery. The special air intake is a key feature of the 911 Sport Classic concept: the air is sucked in via ducts under the rear spoiler. This is why this 911 does not have air intakes in the rear side panels like the regular Turbo models.
The boxer engine is coupled to a seven-speed manual transmission. The 911 Sport Classic is the most powerful 911 with a manual transmission currently available. The transmission has an auto-blip function that compensates for speed differences between gears with a short increase in engine speed when downshifting. The shortened gear lever ensures extra-fast gear changes and a crisp, clear feel. The standard sports exhaust system has been specially adapted for this version and provides an even more emotional sound, which is particularly noticeable because Porsche has removed some of the interior insulation from the car.
The chassis, based on the 911 Turbo and 911 Carrera GTS, meets the highest demands. Thanks to Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), the shock absorbers respond to dynamic changes with lightning speed. PASM is combined as standard with the sports chassis, which has been lowered by 10 millimetres. The 911 Sport Classic has rear-wheel drive, which means that the axle load at the front is lower than in models with all-wheel drive. For this reason, the suspension specialists at Porsche have slightly lowered the spring rate on the front axle. The steering and rear-axle steering have been specially adapted for the 911 Sport Classic. Carbon ceramic brakes (PCCB) are also part of the standard equipment. The brake callipers are painted in high-gloss black and feature a white Porsche logo.
