In 2020, Porsche unveiled a special Targa, the Heritage Design Edition. Based on the 992 Targa 4S, these special cars were designed to celebrate Porsche’s historic models and utilized numerous accents and touches from the brand’s past. This example is in essentially as-new condition and shows just 290 km at the time of cataloging. First delivered in France, this Targa is finished in Chalk and looks stunning with all of the special Heritage Edition touches. It’s easy to spot a Heritage Edition thanks to its Porsche script on the doors and white circle where a racing number would go. These graphics were applied from the factory, as are a set of beautiful Fuchs-style wheels that give the car that classic appearance. Another unique homage to the early days of Porsche is the gold badging around the car. Although the upgrades on the car are simple, they really do change the overall vibe of the car and turn it into something truly collectible.
The interior features a stunning mix of materials, giving it a uniquely upscale feeling. Finished in Atacama Beige, the seats are upholstered with leather bolsters, and the centers are a beautiful corduroy cloth. The corduroy is another homage to the interiors of old and carries through onto the door cards which also feature accents in the material. The pillars and headliner are all wrapped in perforated light tan Alcantara, which provides a wonderful finishing touch to the inside. On the dashboard sits a gold badge – once again a Heritage Design Edition exclusive – that shows this car is chassis 966 of 992.
As a 992 Targa 4S, this car is fitted with a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged flat 6. According to Porsche, this engine produces 444 horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque, which is sent to all 4 wheels through an 8-speed PDK dual-clutch gearbox. Items like Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) are standard on the Targa 4S, as is Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus which sends the power to different wheels as it is needed. 0-100 km/h happens in just 3.6 seconds, and the top speed is reportedly in excess of 300 km/h.
What makes the Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition so special is that it gave Porsche a chance to look back at some of the unique pieces in their history and figure out how to implement them in a modern context. With just 992 examples produced worldwide, these cars are icons in their own right and have shown significant interest among collectors in recent years. If you want a truly unique example with little more than delivery mileage, there likely won’t be many better opportunities!
