Addendum: Please note that this car is recorded as having its speedometer/odometer replaced at 7,030 miles. It has since been driven 3,680 miles for a total of 10,710 miles at the time of cataloguing.
Delivered new to Town Motorcar Corporation of Englewood, New Jersey in January 1990, this 964-generation 911 Targa represents an early example of the rear-wheel-drive Carrera 2; the previous model year’s cars were all-wheel-drive-equipped Carrera 4 variants.
The Targa featured a removeable top panel coupled with fixed rear glass, offering the ability to enjoy open-top motoring with a coupe look and without the hassles of soft-top maintenance. This Targa came equipped with an optional limited-slip differential paired with its standard 3.6-liter flat-six engine and five-speed manual transaxle. Other optional extras include a two-tone Silk Grey and Black leather interior, Black piping, heated seats, and leather-wrapped shift knob and boot.
This air-cooled icon would live a pampered life with its first owner in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania for the first 18 years of its life. Accumulating just 8,880 miles, dealer servicing was documented in its original owner’s book. Ownership passed to a second local caretaker in 2008, who would accrue approximately 1,800 additional miles. Further servicing was completed at Don Rosen Porsche in 2014, after which the car passed to the White Collection.
With its odometer replaced at 7,030 miles, this 964-generation Targa now shows 3,680 for a total of 10,710 miles driven at the time of cataloguing. Consequently, it remains in remarkably original condition. Its factory-original Grand Prix white paint shows exceedingly well, with a paint meter chart on file indicating consistency across the car’s body. Other accompanying items include the original window sticker and owner’s books, tools, and a document binder. While in the White Collection, the car has been started monthly and run to operating temperature.
Appreciation for the Type 964 911 continues to grow among Porsche enthusiasts, making this well-documented and highly original example an excellent addition to any air-cooled collection.
