Porsche 911 S

Porsche 911 S

Coupé, 1967

Highlights

  • Aga Blue
  • Partially Restored
  • Under 30000mi

This exceptional, preservation-class 911 S was completed in Zuffenhausen, Germany, on July 19, 1967, and optioned with a Webasto heater, tinted windshield, and Dunlop tires, and finished in the handsome and rare color combination of Aga Blue (6608) over a Black leatherette interior. The Porsche was shipped to the US where it was sold new by Auto Engineering Inc. of Lexington, Massachusetts, for $6,532.85 to Mr. G. Wilbur Tracy, the president of Gloucester Engineering. Mr. Tracy was a meticulous owner, as the original receipt for the payment and a copy of the original bill of sale remain on file, as does a photo of him standing with the car in 1967.

Das Fahrzeug im Detail

In 1970, Mr. Tracy gave the Porsche as a gift to Sven Lennart Anderson, his international sales manager. At the time, the Porsche had traveled just 1,047 miles. Originally from Sweden, Mr. Anderson had moved to California, where he kept the Porsche for the next 40 years. He was extremely fond of the 911, and did everything in his power to maintain it in as original condition as possible, while attending to any maintenance needs.

A remarkably complete set of records from Mr. Andersen’s ownership accompany the sale, which date all the way back to 1973, and are so thorough as to even include the ticket summons from a time when the car did not pass emissions inspection. In Mr. Andersen’s ownership, the 911 was almost exclusively serviced by Gregory Soos of Gregg’s Service in Westminster, California, and 32 pages of records on file document this work. Soos was formerly the mechanic for Tom Trana, the Swedish rally legend and 1964 European rally champion. In 2015, Mr. Andersen moved to France and took the Porsche with him. Shortly thereafter, he sold the 911 to Franck Stricker of Germany.

Mr. Stricker continued the tradition of meticulous care for the 911 and had the engine and gearbox rebuilt by 911 specialists Classic Power of Schorndorf, Germany. According to a note from Mr. Stricker on file, he also had the original seats re-stuffed (retaining the original upholstery), and had the undercarriage, insides of the wheel arches, and parts of the trunk and engine compartment dry ice blasted, primed, and painted. Voluminous receipts totaling over $40,000 and extensive photographs accompany this work as well. In 2017, the 911 was issued a FIVA identity card.

The consignor, a discerning collector of original-paint cars, acquired the Porsche from Mr. Stricker and imported it to the US, becoming only the fourth owner in the car’s 55-year life. Based on paint meter readings, the consignor and prior owner believe the 911 retains its handsome original Aga Blue paint. The 911 is fitted with brand new tires and the consignor spent over $10,000 in the last two years at Porsche specialists Rennsport Automotive in Bedford Hills, New York, getting the car to a high level of mechanical refinement.

This remarkable 1967 Porsche 911 S has everything a demanding collector could possibly desire in an early 911 and more. It is the first and most collectible year for the 911 S and is finished in one of the most desirable colors, Aga Blue. Importantly, it also retains its matching-numbers engine and gearbox according to its Certificate of Authenticity. Making the Porsche even more special are the extensive records that fill a binder over three inches thick, its period of long-term California ownership, and its appealing patina commensurate with its largely unrestored condition. Further, the car has never been shown, offering the new owner the opportunity to garner attention and accolades in preservation-class concours.

The 911 comes with an incredibly complete set of original literature, including original Blaupunkt radio manuals in their proper folio, stamped service booklet, maintenance record book, accessories booklet, workshop manual, and owner’s manual. The car also comes with a rare 1967 service bulletin, period sales literature and road tests, photos of mechanical work performed, Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and a copy of the factory Kardex.

Offered without reserve, this sensational Porsche represents what is likely a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to acquire one of the finest unrestored 911s extant.
