Story
Inspired by the 356 Speedster of the 1950s, the 1989 911 Speedster is a modern tribute to this legendary model. It is based on the generation 911 Carrera 3.2.
It uses the Carrera’s naturally-aspirated 3.2-litre Flat-6 engine, producing around 231bhp (European version).
A 5-speed manual (G50), renowned for its robustness and precision.
This version features the wide bodywork of the 911 Turbo (type 930), with widened wings and large bumpers.
The brakes and suspension have been upgraded to match those of the Turbo.
The ‘Turbo Look’ gives it a more aggressive appearance, without the turbo engine.
Very low roof, flatter profile.
Shorter, more raked windscreen.
Specific rear arch and double bosses behind the seats.
Lighter, manual canvas roof, designed with the purist in mind.
Speedster production ran from January to September of 1989.
2103 were built in total (although some sources state 2056 units).
This figure comprised 1933 in the Turbo-bodied format of which 129 were right-hand drive.
The remaining 171 cars were completed to conventional narrow-bodied trim of which ten were right-hand drive.
