1973 Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 „MFI“ in Irish Green

Building on the legacy of the iconic Carrera RS, the 1974 Carrera 2.7 MFI stands out as a remarkable automobile in its own right, offering RS-level performance at a fraction of the cost. Even rarer than its predecessor, with only 1,036 units ever produced, finding a well-preserved example can be quite challenging.

This particular early model is in exceptional condition, retaining its original matching motor and gearbox. It would be an ideal choice for an enthusiast looking to experience and enjoy one of the most thrilling 911s ever made.

THE 911 Carrera MFI

The 1973 Carrera RS was a phenomenal success for Porsche, prompting the company to continue its winning streak into 1974. However, new crash safety regulations in the United States required the end of the „long-hood“ chassis, leading to the introduction of the G-series 911. This new series featured shock-mounted bumpers, a reinforced floor pan, updated lighting, and several other enhancements.

The European-spec 1974 911 Carrera retained the renowned 210-horsepower, type 911/83, 2.7-liter mechanically fuel-injected engine from the legendary 1973 Carrera RS. The new Carrera 2.7 „MFI“ featured elegantly flared fenders and rear quarters, accommodating seven- and eight-inch-wide Fuchs forged alloy wheels. Underneath, the car boasted new forged aluminum rear trailing arms, 20-millimeter front and 18-millimeter rear anti-roll bars, Bilstein sport shocks and struts, and large ventilated disc brakes on all four corners. Power was delivered through a Type 915/06 five-speed manual transaxle.

THIS 911 CARRERA MFI

This example is one of only 1,036 European-spec Porsche 911 Carrera coupés produced for the 1974 model year, originally delivered in Germany at the end of 1973. Finished in a stunning Irish Green over a tan interior, the car has driven just 58,250 kilometers since new.

The Carrera 2.7 was soon sold to Luxembourg, where it remained with its second owner for many years. Unfortunately, due to a challenging divorce, the owner was forced to sell the car, and some original documents were lost in the process. The car was then purchased by SportwagenService (SWS) in Elversberg, Saarland, Germany. The current owner acquired the car from SWS and had it partially restored to its current condition.

The body was stripped down to bare metal and repainted in its original Irish Green. During the restoration, new rubber seals, carpets, and lights were installed. Mechanically, the car received a new fuel tank, exhaust system, oil radiator, revised brakes, and new Pirelli P6000 tires.

Continuing the legacy of the iconic Carrera RS, the 1974 Carrera 2.7 MFI is an exceptional automobile in its own right, delivering RS-level performance at a more accessible price. With only 1,036 examples produced, finding a well-preserved model like this is a rare opportunity.

This early and unique example is in excellent condition, retaining its matching motor and gearbox. It’s an ideal choice for anyone looking to drive and enjoy one of the most exhilarating 911s ever built.

The car comes with Belgian registration and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.
