Das Fahrzeug im Detail

Hexagon Classics are delighted to offer a most unique and historically-important Porsche 911E 2.0. This is the very first long-wheelbase car that Porsche produced, a prototype that retains its matching-number components, and has been fully restored without regard to expense to “as new” showroom condition. The moniker ‘E’ for Einspritzung, signified the factory’s first-ever fuel injected road car.

Imported to Porsche Cars Great Britain, Isleworth in 1969, the Porsche 911E was first owned by Formula One and Two racer Robs Lamplough who then sold the Porsche 911E to Formula One manager and noted racer Paddy McNally, who subsequently sold the Porsche to legendary Swiss Formula One and Porsche Works driver Jo Siffert. Among other notable victories, in 1970 Siffert and co-driver Brian Redman won the Targa Florio race in a Porsche 908/3.

The diecast magnesium crankcase, chain housings and valve covers mean that this car is the first known Porsche Magnesium Flat-Six Crankcase. The Bosch MFI fuel pump was fully restored to preserve originality.  Remarkably the green fan shroud needed no additional painting or repair. The 901/03 transmission has an all-aluminium casing that was used in cars between late 1968 and 1971. This is also the first-ever example of a Porsche with CDI ignition system, which improved combustion and reduced spark plug fouling. The vital addition of 57mm to the chassis length of the car helped the Porsche 911combat the dramatic oversteer of the earlier SWB models.

For over 25 years this important barn find lay undiscovered hidden under hay bales in Scotland until being unearthed in 2011. It was sold to a Porsche enthusiast in 2012 who then commissioned the finest marque experts, including Auto Classica, GDC Automotive, Redtek and Gibson’s to restore the Porsche back to its showroom state.  More than £280,000 was spent just to ensure that this important Porsche has no equal. The former Porsche prototype even retained the SWB indicators, horn grilles and dash top. After restoration it took pride of place at the Autoworld exhibition in Brussels.
