The Porsche 996 GT3 RS, presented in September 2003 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, is the first Porsche to be adorned with the now legendary GT3 RS name. True heir to the legendary 2.7 Carrera RS from which it takes its sporty genes and aesthetic codes, it stands out as a „must-have“ of the most famous sports car in automotive history, the 911. Developed to offer an even purer driving experience, it is positioned on the border between racing car and road car, and is thus significantly more radical than the 996 GT3 on which it is based. Produced in only 682 units, it represents the very essence of sportiness according to Porsche, with a direct link to the 911 GT3 RSR.
From a technical point of view, the 996 GT3 RS is based on a sharpened chassis and a highly optimized naturally aspirated engine. It takes the 3.6-liter flat-six from the Mezger engine, developing 381 hp at 7,300 rpm, with a red zone at 8,200 rpm. Compared to the standard GT3, rigidity and aerodynamics are improved, notably with a carbon bonnet and spoiler, as well as a polycarbonate rear window. Its chassis is optimised with specific suspensions and settings allowing even sharper behaviour on the circuit. Its bodywork is distinguished by a white livery decorated with blue or red stripes, reminiscent of historic RS models.
With a weight reduced to around 1,360 kg, the 996 GT3 RS displays high-level performance. It goes from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 190 mph. Thanks to its short six-speed manual gearbox and its mechanical self-locking differential, it offers exceptional traction and driving precision. Its sharp chassis and reinforced braking make it a benchmark in terms of track behaviour, allowing experienced drivers to exploit its full potential. Rare and built for performance, it remains one of the most sought-after Porsches by purists.
