1978 PORSCHE 930 TURBO RUF BTR COUPE

The BTR marked the beginning of RUF as a manufacturer in its own right, establishing itself as the most highly regarded of all the Porsche tuning companies. The BTR was inspired by the FIA Group B regulations of the time, utilizing a 930 Turbo as a basis to compete with the fastest products from Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche itself. The BTR was routinely regarded as the fastest accelerating road car at the time. The BTR utilized a 930 turbo engine bored to 3.4 liters and then fitted with Mahle pistons, Twin plug Cylinder heads, RUF 935-type camshafts, RUF intercooler and a larger KKK turbo. This resulted in a power output of 374 bhp.

Various enhancements include: RUF sport steering wheel, RUF Seats, RUF gauges, RUF Branded Porsche 917 Derived Brakes, RUF Suspension, RUF specific 17-inch Speedline Wheels, RUF front spoiler, RUF Aero Side View Mirrors, RUF quad-pipe sport muffler, RUF shift Knob, RUF Pedals, RUF five-speed gearbox, Matter roll cage as used by Porsche, Body color high mounted stop lamp and Modern Porsche PCCM head unit with new speakers.

Most recently (2023) just over $60,000 was spent on the RUF BTR with Stahl Motorsports of West Palm Beach. The engine and five-speed transmission were removed. The engine was placed on a stand and serviced with new oil lines, gaskets, spark plugs, etc. along the same time the transmission received new seals and fluid. Various other items have received service-maintenance, including: The suspension received new ball joints, new Turbo tie-rod ends, new front wheel bearings, new parking brake pads, a new Porsche rear center reflector, a new steering column bushing as well as various other items.
