Ferrari’s are red and Porsche’s are black. We are not here to break old traditions, but we would like to show the world that tunnel vision is not going to get us anywhere if we like to keep things distinctive and original. A Crimson 911 4S Cabriolet is bold, daring and even a touch brazen. But above all, a Porsche 992 in red is a surprisingly delicious combination! The wow factor is further enhanced by insanely beautiful additions such as 20/21-inch (front/rear) silky black multi-spoke rims with – you guessed it – bright red brake calipers behind them. The body brought 10 mm closer to the ground and the SportDesign package also contribute significantly to the crushing and distinctive look. The latter, by the way, comes complete with sideskirts painted in body color. The black hood, ditto edging of the sports exhaust tips and dark headlight housing make the contrast even more pronounced. And thus the overall picture even more impressive.
Interior
Hypermodern as the coolly evolved 911 of the current generation is, the cockpit has fully embraced the digital age. The exception to this rule are the tachometer and the Sport Chrono clock. And for a reason: from the moment you get in, the analog stopwatch encourages fast lap times. Seating also gives you maximum pleasure, as the Adaptive Sport Seats Plus offer not only a perfect seating position, but also fantastic support – just when the G-forces increase… The GT Sport steering wheel also includes a subtle 12 o’clock marker, in case the fast cornering combinations are interspersed with a long straight. And of course, the high-tech carbon interior package is not to be missed in a sophisticated supercar like this, either. Other than that, no frills on board the Porsche 992 Carrera 4S Cabriolet: black leather upholstery predominates and the dashboard is deliberately kept clear and sleek. Of course, you can’t use many distractions on the road!
Options & extras
With the magical boxer rumble from the rear that is boosted by a genuine sports exhaust, we can wonder aloud whether a professional sound system adds value. It didn’t stop Porsche from including a delightful Bose Surround Sound audio system combined with Apple CarPlay. Lovers of speed, however, will especially welcome the presence of the Sport Chrono Package, lowered Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) Sport suspension and Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV+). To say sitting down for a good time is an understatement thanks to the extensively electrically adjustable Adaptive Sport Seats Plus including memory function for the driver. The latter also has the luxury that the GT Sport steering wheel he or she grips firmly can be heated upon request. At least your hands will not get clammy when parking, as the co-steering rear axle is active at both high and low speeds.
Technology & performance
Yet we prefer the high speeds, because only then does the Porsche 911 Carrera 4S Cabrio really come to life. Via a lightning-fast PDK automatic transmission, 450 horses are distributed to the front and rear wheels. As a result, the 3.0 liter twin-blown 6-cylinder boxer engine is able to propel the roofless Elfer past 100 km/h from standstill within 3.8 seconds. Only at a top speed of 304 km/h does the 992 Cabriolet call it a day. You, on the other hand…
