Das Fahrzeug im Detail

A sporty Porsche sounds like a pleonasm at first glance… but the Cayenne brilliantly showed us the opposite. The history of the 911 sports car began in 1973 when Porsche produced its first RennSport, the 2.7RS, for competition purposes. Produced in 500 copies, initially to comply with regulations, its success was such that the final volume was three times greater than forecast. This automobile monument, adored by all sports car enthusiasts, remains the brand’s most beautiful living heritage. Alive yes, to the point that it is inconceivable to no longer find an RS version in the 911 catalog! Produced in nearly 2000 units, the 964 RS took over the business in 1991 after a period of oblivion. It then reconnects with the spirit of the legendary 2.7 RS and its success is immediate with purists. The legend is reborn and this competitive spirit, skillfully maintained by wise marketing, will continue to be perpetuated from generation to generation until the latest generations. In the meantime, the 993 RS brings a little flexibility to the concept…

The appearance of the 993 generation in 1993 led Posche to revisit its 911 Carrera, for the same competition purposes. A sporting obligation which is therefore accompanied, once again, by a road version produced in small numbers and called RS. The 911 Carrera RS type 993 made its first appearance at the Amsterdam Motor Show in January 1995.

At first glance, this RS imposes a more muscular style than that of its predecessor. If it remains relatively quiet in the standard version, it becomes downright beastly on the Clubsport, adorned with its monstrous 993 Carrera Cup spoiler. Originally, the appendix is more sober and consists of a flat monoplane spoiler reminiscent of that of the first 911 Carrera RS 3.0. Sometimes invisible, the hunt for kilos – inseparable from the RS program – involves an aluminum hood and lightweight 18″ rims, in two parts.

Originally delivered with air conditioning and sports seats, the Porsche 911 RS type 993 does not completely renounce all comfort. The Clubsport, however, leaves this equipment in the locker room in exchange for a roll bar, two bucket seats with harnesses and a fire extinguisher. The term interior no longer seems so appropriate when talking about the 993 RS Clubsport. This is in fact a real cockpit, worthy of a racing car. The driving position is not perfect, but you immediately feel comfortable, totally seated in the seat. The simplified door panels taken from the 964 RS are, however, standard in both versions, as is power steering, but the 993 RS Clubsport also omits its sister’s electric windows. Of course, no seat in the back, which rules out any Sunday stroll with the family. Solitary pleasure the 911 RS 3.8… The carpets are refined, just like the windows, or even removed in the trunk.

By scrounging up some insulators, we gave voice to the engine and contributed to the slimming diet. The specific “Carrera RS” logo completes the visual signature on the engine hood. The counterpart of the weight reduction effort can be measured on the scale with a weight reduced to only 1270 kg, a good hundred less than a standard 993.

The mechanical basis of the Porsche 993 Carrera RS is the well-known 3.6 inaugurated by the 964 generation. Starting from this block, Porsche rebores everything to 3746 cm3 (the name 3.8 is therefore inaccurate…) by increasing the bore. This modification will constitute the X51 option for the latest 993 Carrera. Air-cooled since 1963, the Porsche flat 6 also retains its two valves per cylinder, which does not make it a modern model in 1995.

On the modern side, Porsche has adopted a hydraulic valve clearance adjustment, unlike the 964 RS, as well as the Varioram system, a system patented by the parent company, acting on the length of the intake manifolds according to the engine speed and making it possible to improve the air filling and therefore the torque. Specific to the 993 RS Clubsport, it does not have a dual-mass flywheel and is therefore a little more brutal in its driving, particularly in urban conditions (what idea will you tell me than going shopping with it).

The 993 RS proves to be much more versatile than the 964 RS and will be produced in 1,014 units.

The car on offer was delivered new in Germany in October 1995. It had a single owner in Germany until 1999 when it was imported to England, where it had 3 owners before arriving in France in a large collection in 2014.

Its maintenance history is crystal clear with all invoices since 2001, and of course its service book.

The car is in perfect presentation and working condition. The last British owner had carried out colossal work to make this 993 like new, both cosmetically and mechanically, the engine was taken out, overhauled, the trains rebuilt, … The car was restored at great expense at this time.
Resumption and financing possible.
