The vehicle in detail
The KALMAR RS is not just about looking tough: like all KALMAR Beyond Adventure Range cars, every upgrade has a purpose. It benefits from the elements necessary to make it a durable rally car, with a focus on weight reduction, safety, and individualism.
The design of the KALMAR RS was heavily informed by KALMAR’s driving experience arm, KALMAR Beyond Adventure – the perfect proving ground for a car of its type. For 20 years, KALMAR Beyond Adventure guests have tackled everything from the frozen lakes of Finland to the intense heat of South America, driving KALMAR machinery to places few dare to go.
Exterior
Built with unmistakable style, the KALMAR RS features higher rally-specification ground clearance allowing it to traverse even the most uncharted routes. A combination of unique KALMAR shock absorbers, robust subframes and off-road wheels and tyres combine with complete underbody protection to conquer almost every obstacle. A roof-mounted survival kit, comprising two 10-litre jerry cans and a tyre carrier, further extends the driving range and ability of the RS, while auxiliary lighting compensates for the donor car’s original headlights.
Technical specifications
The engine specifications available for the KALMAR RS are broad. Starting with the original 3.6-litre air-cooled engine, various tuning levels are available to take power to between 265hp and 300hp, depending on each customer’s requirements. Included as standard is a limited-slip differential, aiding traction across all surfaces.
The suspension is an engineering focus with the KALMAR RS. Ground clearance is increased by 80mm to provide total clearance of 200mm – equivalent to that of a Porsche Cayenne. This is achieved with bespoke adjustable shock absorbers, upgraded driveshafts, a specially engineered subframe, spring plates and top mounts. A strut brace also helps distribute load across the front axle, while a custom suspension set-up without the OEM rear anti-roll bar, and robust bushes, add to the unique recipe. Finally, come lightweight 5.5×15” narrow wheels shod with Michelin all-terrain rubber, or spiked WRC winter tyres, which never fail to impress drivers.
Interior
Reduced in weight and equipped with maximum durability for endurance, the cabin of the KALMAR RS manages to walk the line between being minimalist yet luxurious and comfortable. Only essentials are included: extra lightweight Recaro racing seats are nestled amongst protection and safety equipment, including a rear roll bar. Meanwhile, all noise insulation is removed to further enhance the atmosphere of a raw yet atmospheric cockpit.
Customers who wish to take weight saving measures to the extreme can opt to have the air-conditioning system deleted, while rally-specific competition equipment such as a full roll cage, fly-off handbrake and trip-master timing system are also available if required.
