Nine-hundred and forty-four foot-pounds. That’s the gut-punching amount of torque produced by the 875bhp Porsche 918 Spyder, over half of which is on-tap and available from just 800rpm. That’s right: 800rpm.
Don’t let the soft soap-bar styling fool you into thinking the 918 Spyder is something of a pussycat. Porsche’s hybrid hypercar, the Stuttgart marque’s answer to the LaFerrari and the McLaren P1, tells a story of almighty power and freakish versatility. Beneath the surface this was a drastically different beast to its lesser production Porsche counterparts.
In fact, much of its mechanical blueprint – including the high-revving 600bhp V8 engine and the trick aluminium double-wishbone suspension – is derived from the Le Mans-winning RS Spyder prototype racer. Perhaps it’s of little surprise, then, that the 918 Spyder became the first production car to break the seven-minute barrier at the notoriously challenging Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit. The specific time was six minutes and 57 seconds, a staggering 14 seconds clear of the previous record.
It’s fair to say the first – and only – owner of the stunning Porsche 918 Spyder we’re presenting had great foresight when it came to the specification of his car.
You see, car number 859 is fitted with the most prominent parts from the ultra-desirable Weissach Package, including the lightweight magnesium-alloy BBS wheels (30,000 euros in themselves) and the extended rear diffuser. Crucially, however, the car retains the electronic nose lift, significantly increasing its real-world useability.
One of only two examples resplendent in factory paint-to-sample Grand Prix White, over a leather-to-sample Dark Grey, Stone Grey and Silver interior, this 918 Spyder boasts a liberal list of optional extras, the full extent of which can be found at the bottom of this page.
“Car number 859 is one of only two Porsche 918 Spyders finished in paint-to-sample Grand Prix White.”
Those items on the list which naturally caught our eye were the carbon-fibre interior trim, the Schroth six-point harnesses for both driver and passenger seats, the DAB digital radio, the wheels painted in satin black and the silver 12 o’clock marker on the bespoke dark-grey leather steering wheel.
Car number 859 was delivered to its first owner on 17 May 2016 via the official Porsche Centre Reading and road-registered in the United Kingdom. It has remained on the same registration since then, covering a mere 691 miles in total. During that time it has been maintained only ever by Official Porsche Centres, most recently in April of 2024 with a minor service at Porsche Reading.
Having only covered such ultra-low mileage, this 918 Spyder, unsurprisingly, presents in near-flawless condition, both inside and out. The transparent protection film on door sills even remains intact.
Satisfyingly, the car retains virtually all of the original factory paraphernalia with which it was originally delivered. This includes the factory document pouch containing the service book, owner’s manuals and hand-signed delivery certificate, the car cover, the charging cable, the optional Schroth six-point harnesses and the spare key.
