Even from its initial introduction as the 901 at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1963, Porsche obsessively and continuously updated the 911 to meet market expectations, increase performance, and enhance comfort. For 1974, stricter emissions and safety requirements around the world brought perhaps the largest slew of updates to the model up to that time, with Porsche introducing the „G-Model“ for the new model year.
Nearly every element of the car received changes. New front/rear bumpers increased safety to meet new American requirements, while cars received a full-wide taillight lens with „Porsche“ prominently featured for additional nighttime visibility. Inside, updated seats with integrated headrests enhanced both comfort and neck support. Coupe and Targa body styles remained the two choices across three trim levels, the base 911, the 911 S, and the 911 Carrera 2.7. All three trim levels received a fuel-injected 2.7 liter Flat-6, with the S models producing 175hp. The result of the updates was a car eager to show off its handling and performance abilities whilst maintaining the comfort and safety expected of a luxury sports coupe.
